He holds a Doctorate in Education from Murray State University with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Dr. Martin has led the manufacturing of many high-reliability power electronic components used in space and military applications. His area research is in the retention of underrepresented students in Engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer (Manufacturing), a project management professional, a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and a Scrum Master. Dr. Martin enjoys teaching applied mathematics courses, including electrical and electronic courses. Electrical engineering is fascinating as it focuses strongly on being applied math. He is always willing to share both his successes and failures. Dr. Martin has been on the Today Show (2008, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaZOJ1WOIL8 ) demonstrating a waterproofed smartphone, radio, and other commercial items that were not considered to need waterproofing at that time. Dr. Martin holds various patents on waterproofing electronics. Information about this waterproofing project can be found at: https://www.hzo.com/blog/the-story-of-sid/
Dr. Martin is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Dr. Martin conducts research on the retention of underrepresented minorities in engineering. Recently, he has been researching advanced power electronics for the electrification of autonomous vehicles.
