Hello! Welcome to my faculty page. Here's just a little bit of information about myself. I have been teaching humanities since 1997 and at SPC (Tarpon campus) since 2009. My undergraduate degree and master's degree are in English and my Ph.D is in Humanities. I received my Ph.D from Florida State University where I taught in the Humanities Program for three years (1997-2000) and wrote my doctoral dissertation on a comparison between Shakespearean tragedy and Greek tragedy, particularly that of Euripides. I also participated in an NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) conference at the University of Michigan in Homeric Studies (2008) and have done some summer post-graduate study at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington D.C. and the University of Chicago. I have presented academic papers at various institutions such as Yale University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Missouri at Columbia, and a few others. Traveling is a passion of mine and I have had the privilege of taking students on study abroad trips to Italy and Greece while at SPC.
In addition to my teaching, research is important to me. I have published an essay on Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (Bloom's Literary Themes, 2009) and a book on the ancient Greeks which is available at Amazon (Ancient Greeks on the Human Condition: Themes in the Writings of Homer, Aristophanes, Euripides and Thucydides by McFarland Press, 2021). I am currently at work on a book on Shakespeare's tragedies. At SPC, I mainly teach Hum 1020: Introduction to Humanities (both face-to-face and online) and Hum 2210: Ancient to Renaissance. When I am not teaching I enjoy watching old television shows, listening to classical and 80's music, and playing the occasional game of chess with my son. I also have an interest in theology, in particular the writings of C.S. Lewis and Christian apologetics.
I look forward to seeing you in class or on-line!
