I’m a semi-retired Civil Engineer with over 30 years of experience in Water Resources. Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with dedicated professional public servants to solve complex challenges. This includes significant environmental projects from initial concept all the way to final design, construction specifications, and regulatory documentation. My work has often involved rerouting rivers, restoring wetlands, and leading multidisciplinary teams in GIS, CAD, surveying, and engineering design. I’ve also advised stakeholders on multi-million dollar investments.

Problem-solving has always been at the heart of what I do. With a natural ability to see the bigger picture, I’ve developed creative and often inventive solutions - some of which you can explore in my Inventions: https://go.shr.lc/3I8WEJM. I’m quick to learn new tools and enjoy applying them in innovative ways. My continued Beta work has evolved into Apple’s Beta Research App, contributing to health-related studies and staying current with updates across iWatch, iPad, MacBook, and MacPro platforms.

My engineering journey began with the original FORTRAN-based Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) developed by the EPA at UF. Today, I’m proud to see Hillsborough County’s SWMM program receive FEMA approval for its updated floodplain delineation methods.

After witnessing the environmental impacts of rapid land development in Florida, I chose to semi-retire and focus on teaching sustainable solutions. My PhD research explored how Urban Agriculture can address urban water challenges - an area I believe holds great promise for our future: https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/etd/6636/
